Did everyone have a good weekend? I hope everybody had a good weekend. I felt very happy on Saturday afternoon because I had talked to my grandmother for more than two hours. I have a deep affection for my grandmother. When I was a little child, I began to live with my grandmother and my grandfather. Both my grandmother and my grandfather were teachers. My grandmother was a Chinese teacher in elementary school, and she was an amiable and respected teacher. During my childhood, my grandmother gave me a lot of love because my parents were busy with their work.

On Saturday, I used Skype to talk with my grandmother, and I could see that she was healthy. She said she missed me very much, and she wanted me to take good care of myself. When I came to Canada, I often worried about her health. There was something wrong with her heart before I came to Canada. I stayed with my grandmother, and she used to take many medicines. On Saturday, I felt she was better than I talked to her last Christmas. I remembered I always went for a walk with her at summer time, and we went to a square near our house. At that time, she was very thin; however, on Saturday she was a little fatter, and she had a better health. She told me if someone knocked at the door, she and grandfather thought it was me. I spent more time staying with my grandparents than my mum and dad. She told me what she did at her leisure time. She also said she watched a TV drama those days, and she said she would move a new house with my grandfather in May. She said she loved her new house. I was interested in her talking. I hope her health will become much better. My family’s well-being is very important for me, and it is a biggest happiness.

Does everyone like listening to music?  From my standpoint, a large proportion of my leisure time is spent in listening to music. What do I want to say? I mean that listening to music enriches my life. I always believe that children like what parents like because both my father and my mother like music.  I may have gotten the music gene from my parents.  I am not a scientist, so it is just my direct comprehension. 

In my childhood, I was interested in listening to music. When I heard some songs on the TV, I always became active and kicking. I sang with the music, and my parents even didn’t understand what I was singing. They just knew I was a happy angel, so they had a happy memory.  When I grew up, I began to listen to some popular Chinese songs.  Like other teenagers, I also became a fan of lots of singers, and I bought a lot of CDs. At that time, I fell asleep by listening to music. In high school, I changed the style of music that I listened to, and I would like to listen to piano music. Piano music made me feel relaxed in that stressful environment. In high school, my favorite one is “Castle in the Sky”. I think most people know this famous piano music. The melody is charming and beautiful. I can’t help to come into an easeful and comfortable world, when I listened to “Castle in the Sky”. Now, in the university I often listen to piano music in my entertainment time; however, most times I choose to listen to English pop music. It makes me happy, and I think it is a good way to improve my English listening. These days I always listen to songs of Avirl. Her new album is called “Goodbye Lullaby”. I like this album very much, and some songs from the album are good songs. You can try to listen to this album, and I hope you like it.

On March 19, there was a big party in my homestay. The protagonist was my host father, so it was a party to celebrate my host father’s birthday. My host father, who is a Christian, is a native Canadian, and his wife is a Canadian-Philippine.  My homestay mum spent a long time making a lot of delicious food. My homestay mum is good at cooking. The family of my host mum’s sister also came to the party. All of these family members are Philippines. At the party, we ate different kinds of food, such as, turkey, fire noodles, soup with pork and eggs and so on. The food was so delicious, and the friede noodles were my favorite because the food was similar to Chinese food. When I ate the noodles, I couldn’t help missing my mum’s cooking. I hadn’t eaten my mum’s cooking for more than half a year.  I really enjoyed that party. After the big dinner, there was a birthday cake waiting for us, and it was a beautiful cake with some fruits. During the party, there were two special guests whose names are Maggie and Casper. They are pets of my host mum’s sister, and both of them are dogs. They are cousins of Koala. Koala is a cat of my homestay. He was busy with sleeping, so he didn’t attend the party. Maggie and Casper are very different from each other. Maggie is a girl, and she is taller and fatter than Casper. She is a black Labrador. On the contrary, Casper is a boy, and he is a toy poodle. He is so cute, and he likes people playing with him. In the party, I had a great time with Casper.  I touched his head, and he laid down beside me. Maggie was so hungry that she ate a lot of food. Both of them are very clever, and I really like to play with them. Finally, I had a good night, and I really loved that party.

Listening Log Assignment 6

If you have a little brother who is a mouse, how is your feeling?  It is an amazing question, right? This time I want to share a movie whose name is “Stuart Little”. It showed in 1991, and it is an old movie. However, it is a memorable film. There is a happy family with four members, parents, a son, and a cat. One day, they had another family member-a mouse. His name was Stuart, and the son called George was his big brother. At first, George didn’t like Stuart, and he couldn’t accept he had a mouse brother. He felt disappointed, and the cat-Mr. Snow was also hated Stuart. The story is between Stuart and this family. After “Central Park Boat Race”, George and Stuart became good friends, and in the end they took home the trophy. How happy they were! However, something was going to happen, and Stuart went back to his real parents. Don’t feel sad because at the end of the story was a fairy tale. Do you want to know what had happened during the film? You can watch this film, and I’m sure  you will really enjoy it.

From this film, I learn two beautiful sentences. First, “I’m starving.” It means that people was too hungry. Second, “it is adorable.” When George’s uncles saw Stuart, they said this sentence; it means that Stuart was so cutie.

My homesickness is always around my mind. Have you ever have the same feeling as me? Now, let me tell some stories about my hometown. My home province is Henan Province which is in the middle of China. It is a big province, and there are lots of places to visit. My home province is a historical province, and in ancient times it is one of the most important areas on military, such as Kaifeng, which was the capital of the Song dynasty. However, after such a long time, the beauty of its culture and history is also clear. I believe that the Chinese Kung fu is well known by most Canadian people. Does everyone know Jet Lee who is a famous movie star? He acted in the movie named Shaolin Temple in 1982, and it was a successful movie. The filming location was in my hometown. The Shaolin Temple is located in Dengfeng, Henan province, and it is the source of the martial art. Every year, it attracts many people to visit. Furthermore, there is a good place to see the peony, which is the valuable flower. In my home province, Luyang is a suitable place to grow the peony, and there is a peony show during May every year. In May, there are a great variety of peonies, such as white peonies, purple peonies and so on. I love the peony because it is a large flower and a bright color. In China people call peony: “national beauty and heavenly fragrance.” Finally, I think most people are more interested in food. In my home province, noodles are the most important dishes, and there are different kinds of noodles, such as stewed noodles, fried noodles and so on. I so miss about my hometown dishes.  These are general ideas to know about my hometown. For my standpoint, my hometown is a good place for living.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt, pandas are the national treasure of China. The film which I want to talk is about a panda, but he is a special panda who knows Kung Fu. The name of this movie is “Kung Fu Panda”. It was showed at May, 2008. His name is Po, and he likes eating noodles. In the same way, he daydreams about fighting, and he always thinks he is a winner. In the story, there were other five animals, and people called them The Furious Five. They were Tigress, Viper, Crane, Monkey, and Mantis. There was a monster whose name is Tai Lung. At first he was in the prison, but he run away from the prison. The Dragon Warrior would fight with him. The Furious Five had been waiting that for a long time; however, Po became the Dragon Warrior. How amazing it was! He side he was a little harder, and he didn’t know anything about how to fight. There was a Master Shifu who taught Po Kung Fu. During that time, the Furious Five were not friendly with Po, and Po felt sad. He told his Shifu he should just quit.  There was another important person who was the leader of all these Furious Five and Master Shifu . They called him Master Oogway. He gave Po a big hug, and he said: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.” Thus, Po didn’t give it up, and he got the Dragon’s Scroll. However, it was nothing inside. It just told Po that he could do well, and he could be a hero. Finally, he was a winner of the final fight with Tai Lung.

I learn two sentences from the film. The fist one is “I disgust you.” It means that someone can not satisfy you, and you hate him. The other one is “there are no accidents.”  It means that don’t make an excuse for your mistakes.

NEW Writing Log 3

Today is a beautiful day, and the temperature is much higher than before.  The sky is floating some cotton clouds.  I am lucky because I have chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery through my windows, even though there is a lot of snow. I think spring will be coming; likewise, everything will be lively. Looking through my windows, there are many trees around my home. Although the weather in the winter time is very cold, all of these trees are still optimistic to enjoy their lives. Every day, they get to together with the sun, and at the night, they talk with the beautiful moon. No matter what bad weather they have to face, they always stand by you. Thus, what I want to say is that people should be brave and optimistic when they confronted with difficulties.

 I am sure most people will have some troubles which make you feel frustrated. These days I felt not very well because I had lots of troubles. I talked with my dad, and I told him what problems I faced. Dad gave me a big hug, and he said: “Facing trouble will make you become stronger, and you should be tough to deal with these troubles. During the trouble, you will know which choices are right and which are wrong, and I believe you will overcome these problems.” I felt better when I talked with my dad. I could not be confused and negative; on the other hand, I have to try my best to overcome them.  I believe that no one can have a life without any obstacles. Nobody is perfect, and we all have different problems which we have to face. There should be ups and downs, and there are also some pin and failure during the life; however, what can we do? Beyond a doubt, we should be getting up again.

I believe everything will be fine. I can do it.

Listening Log Assignment 4

Today I want to talk about a movie whose name is “The Fox and The Child”. It is a French movie, and it showed at 2007. I watched from my computer last Saturday. I can’t forget the beautiful natural scenery of this movie.  This movie talks about that a little girl makes a friend with a fox.  She is a lovely girl, and she is attracted with a fox.  The first time she saw the fox was on her way to school.  After the first impression, she was interested in the fox. She wanted to find the fox, but the fox always run away. In order to found the fox, she went to the forest alone; likewise, no matter how bad the weather was, she always went to the forest to find the fox. At first, she wanted to have the fox as her pet, and she gave the fox a beautiful name-lily.  Finally, she got to the world of the fox. When she returned to the forest, Lily always answered her. However, one day, she couldn’t find Lily any more, and she realized the fox should be freedom. Love is not means occupying, and it means giving.  The movie let me understand that both human and animals are children of the natural, and we are lying in the natural’s arms. Natural, animals and human should get along.

I learned an idiom at the beginning of the movie, -sb’s heart is beating flood out, and it means that people feel heart-broken. When you feel so sad, you could say your heart is beating flood out.

Nowadays, there is less snow in Prince George than before. What does cause this phenomenon? Beyond a doubt, it is the global warming problems. The earth’s temperature is rapidly changing, and this can become a disaster. Some people say that the global warming will have dreadful consequences for our environment. As a result there is going to have lots of climate changes, such as heat waves, droughts and floods. Who does make these problems? Many people believe that human activities are causing the earth’s temperature to rise. What should we do to stop global warming? I think the best way is that the government supports researcher, makes laws and keep the general public informed.

We know that governments can support research. For example, they should encourage companies of cars to develop vehicles that cause less pollution. They should also support alternative sources of electricity from wind and water rather than from oil and coal. As well, they should sponsor conferences to discuss the effects of greenhouse gas emissions, and it is a better way to find the solution of this problem.

Moreover, governments can make laws that limit the amount of greenhouse gases by companies emitting. Private companies should be rewarded for following these laws. They should also be punished for creating pollution.

Finally, everybody is affected by global warming. Therefore, it is important that governments involve individuals in the problem solving process. For example they should encourage households to save as much energy as possible by using more efficient light bulbs or less hot water. They should also encourage the public to recycle, and this should be compulsory for everyone. Another way of saving energy is using public transport systems. Governments should spend money on public transport to make it as easy as possible for the public to save energy. Thus, it is clear that there are a lot of things which governments can do to prevent global warming. They should involve companies, support research and encourage individuals to protect the planet.

　　People who live with disabilities are always considered shameful, for it was difficult for them to manage to do the daily affairs that we take for granted. In fact, they have no differences from us except their disabilities which are formed because of inborn deficiency or unfortunate accidents. Luckily, now we find that there is much we can do to help them, like improving the living conditions of them.

   One day when I got to a high-grade hotel, I realized that there was still many things left for us to provide the equal access to the disabled people. As soon as I got through the door of the hotel, I found it was almost impossible for the lame or the blind to enter. The glass door would keep revolving unless someone stopped it. People in wheelchairs were hardly able to stop the door, and it seemed that the width of the door was not as wide as that of the wheelchair. On the other hand, the revolving door was likely to hit the arms or heads of the blind when they tried to get through. The service counter was too high for the people in wheelchairs to reach. If they wanted to seek counsel of checking in or get publicity materials, they could hardly be served as normal people. The counter as well as the phones was in so high a position that it couldn’t be reached by people in wheelchairs. Except these, the stairs were one of the inconvenient tools for the disabled people. There was no elevator for the lame people, so that they were unable to get to another floor unless others offered help. Thus, I want to say that the disabled should have equal rights.

     Every member of society has the right to enjoy a reasonable quality of life, of course, including the disabled people. As society develops, we have the responsibility to offer equal access for the disabled people. Finally, they can have productive and meaningful lives as we do.

Listening Log Assignment 3

This time I want to share a film whose name is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This film was on show at 2005. Even though it is not a fashion and new film, I believe the story of this film is wonderful. There is no doubt that this story is about the chocolate, and there is a genius chocolate producer whose name is Willie Wonka. He has the biggest chocolate factory which is very famous all over the world, but nobody can see Willie Wonka. The mysterious story is beginning. One day he announces a bulletin, and he has decided to allow 5 children to visit his amazing factory. The tickets are inside of the Wonka chocolate, and all the people buy the Wonka chocolate. Who will find the gold ticket?  Charlie is a getting last ticket child. He plays an important role in the movie. He lives in a big poor family, but his family is much warmer than other four children’s’.  There is not much money for Charlie to buy a bar chocolate, but his family gives a lot of love to help him to have a chance to get the ticket. I am moving of Charlie’s family.  Five children start the wonderful trip at the chocolate factory, and all the things are made of chocolate four of them are too exciting to self-control, but Charlie doesn’t lose his head because of the passing excitements. Finally, no doubt that he is the winner. 

 I learn a phrase--set in motion from this movie, and it means that something is beginning to change. I remember that Charlie’s grandmother said: “nothing is impossible!”  , and this sentence gives the energy to Charlie. If you have a dream, nothing is impossible for you to get the goal.

Today is another important festival in China, which is a part of the Spring Festival. It is a festival of lanterns, and it is on the 15^th day of the 1^st lunar moth.  The lantern festival symbolizes family unity, completeness and happiness. On this day, family members get together and eat white dumplings which are round rice balls. The white dumplings have another meaning about reunion. Do you know what are made of the sweet dumplings?  These are made of glutinous rice, and there are filling with red bean paste, hawthorn or black sesame.  I remembered my grandmother made some sweet dumplings for me when I was a child. Most old people know how to make of the sweet dumplings, and the sweet dumplings are traditional Chinese food. There are many different kinds of lanterns on the street from 14^th to 16^th at the 1^st lunar moth. During the lantern festival, children like to go out carrying lanterns together. All of these beautiful lanterns are dazzling, and they bring us the rich culture of ancient China; on the other hand, on the lantern festival young people get together to enjoy the fireworks show, and others say that this day is another Chinese Valentine’s Day. The beautiful show about lanterns and the romantic display of fireworks are the gifts for the lovers. How happy the scenes are!  Today in China, there is a grand TV Show about the lantern festival in the evening. On the daytime there are also the lion dance, stilt walk and so on. The lantern festival also marks the end of the celebrations of the Lunar New Year. When people finish celebrating the lantern festival, it also said that it is time for people to start their new work on the next year. During the Spring Festival, people enjoy the festival joyance with their families, and they also with the new hope meet the next year. Happy the lantern festival! Best wishes for my mum and dad! I miss you so much!

Hi everyone:

This time, I want to share the movie—The Karate Kid. This film tells us a story about the kid whose name is Dre Parker come to China learn Chinese Kung fu. The central figure about this movie is Jaden Smith who is a famous child star in American, and there is also an important actor—Jackie Chan who acts maintenance and the martial arts coach of Dre-Mr. Han. It is an inspirational film, and it is also a funny story. Sometime, Dre looks like a funny kid, and before he goes to Beijing in his mind China is an old country, and he doesn't like China. When he practices the Chinese with his mother on airplane, it is a very funny scene. Her mother makes him try to say some sentences in Chinese which they learned before, Dre with his reluctant expression says hello in Chinese to a man who looks like a Chinese, but the man is an ABC. That‘s funny. Through this movie, I learn a lot of things. At first, there is an idiom – get out of your hair, and it means that don’t bother somebody.Second, I am very like the following sentence which said by Dre’s coach Mr. Han. It is that “Life can bring me down, but I can choose to want to stand up.” It gives me a great encouragement, and I really realize that confidence is the most important thing for a person whenever you do to get what you want to. When you determine to do something, you will overcome difficulties. Finally, I want to say that the theme movie song is a very good song, and its name  is << Never Say Never>>by a singer-Justin Bieber. Try to listen to the song, and I hope you will like it.

        Few days later, the Chinese people will celebrate the Chinese New Year. There is no doubt that the lunar new year is the most important festival in Chinese people’s hearts. It’s time to be close to family and friends; however, I stay in Canada for studying, and this is my first time to celebrate the festival without my family. I have been Canada for 4 months, and I miss my parents extremely. These days, there always are some frames on my mind about my parents and me, we got together to make dumplings and watch TV last year. I am very homesick these days, and sometimes I also have a dream at night about that I fly to China and celebrate the Spring Festival with my family. How beautiful the dream is! I know that most my Chinese friends, they also have the same feeling. All of us are sighing for home and friends.
       Fortunately, we will have a big party at CNC. When I know this event, I feel very excited. All the international students who come from Asia get together to celebrate the Spring Festival. I think I will have a lot of fun on the party because this festival is a special one. Different countries have different culture, and they have their special ways to celebrate this festival which belongs to all of the Asia international students in CNC. The Korean student and the Vietnamese student will do a presentation to tell us how they celebrate this festival. I am interested in their presentations, and I think that will be the amazing thing. When I was in China, I haven’t known that Vietnamese people, Chinese people and the Korean people have the same time to celebrate the lunar New Year. How amazing it is!
       Let us bring our happy mood to meet this festival. I wonder how wonderful the party is!

Hi everyone:

Today, I want to share a cartoon movie-<< Up! >>.  Have you ever seen it before?  I love this film very much, and I am also moved with tears by this film. The film tells that the 78 years old gentleman, Carl, in order to realize the commitment to his wife, so he decides to have the adventure that he and his wife always dreamed of. He takes the house to go to Paradise Falls with a little kid Russell, which house has many balloons in the roof and builds by his wife, Ellie, and him. During the trip, Carl and Russell meet a dog Dug, and a big bird Kevin, and then Carl begins his adventure trip with these members. At beginning of the film,   little Ellie shares her adventure book to Carl with her serious expression: “You have to swear you will not tell anyone! Cross your heart!”  This is a very funny frame. Then Russell’s appearance makes the movie add to comedy, he said few times about himself introduce to Carl, but Carl said: “Skip to the end!” Carl’s expression was reflected by this short sentence. After Ellie dies, Carl has to face a lonely life, and his expression let me know he misses Ellie extremely. “Cross your heart”, it is Carl’s belief, and that’s why Carl takes the house to Paradise Falls.  Their lives are real lives, and they get together to share a life of happiness and sadness. What a wonderful movie it is!
